Red Hog

The Duroc breed is known as the "Black Angus" of pork it is however a red coloured pig and hence the name "Red Hog" It is however just like the Angus Breed a breed of pig that owes more to meat quality than cost of production or extreme growth rates.

The Duroc breed that forms the basis of the Red Hog product has 2 major attributes that set it apart from conventional pork.

Firstly is meat colour. Unfortunately the pork industry has promoted itself as "The Other White Meat" and there has been a trend towards lighter coloured pork. In actual fact juicier more tender pork actually has a slightly more red/pink colour.

The second reason why Duroc delivers a superior meat quality is the same reason Berkshire is so revered- it contains slightly higher levels of intramuscular fat than normal pork delivering a juicier eating experience.
